England National Football Team

England is one of the two oldest national teams in football history. England played the world’s first international football match in 1872 with Scotland. The match took place on 30 November 1872 and it finished in a 0–0 draw. There were 4000 audiences who enjoyed the match. The match took place at West of Scotland Cricket Club’s ground at Hamilton Crescent in Partick, Scotland.

The nick name of the English team is “The three lions”. England’s home ground is Wembley Stadium which is situated in London. This stadium was formerly known as Empire Stadium whose capacity is 82,000 (originally 127,000).

England’s top scorer is Wayne Rooney (scored 53 goals) who is an all-time top scorer of Manchester United (scored 253 goals) as well. England won the 1966 FIFA World Cup. The final match of 1966 FIFA World Cup was hosted by England. Although part of the United Kingdom, England has always had a representative side that plays in major professional tournaments. England could not take part the Olympic Games because the IOC has always recognized United Kingdom as representative sides. England has never won the European Championship though England is one of the powerful football nations.

England has a flock of talented players for 2018 Russia world Cup. Let’s have a look of English squad:
