What is the best baby carrier for a newborn?
A baby carrier (or two, or more) for each family
My answer is always that there is not the best baby carrier, but there is one (or two or more) baby carriers for each family according to their needs of portage, the age of their children, the weather, the moments they will carry, etc.
Each family is different and my job as a consultant is to help them choose the baby carrier that best responds to their needs (or baby carriers since mom and dad do not have to like the same
But taking into account only the age and weight of the baby, we can talk about baby carriers that fit better or worse.
Baby carrier according to the age and weight of the baby
After the baby feels lonely (6, 7 months …) you can use all kinds of baby carriers.
If the baby does not hold his back, and especially if he is newborn, the baby carrier must respect and adapt to his body giving him the support he needs.
The scarf (fabric or elastic), the bandolier of rings and the evolutionary backpacks are the baby carriers that respect the physiological posture of the newborn.
They allow a point-by-point adjustment of the fabric getting a good fit and support of your head, neck and back
This optimal fit prevents the baby from moving or moving inside the carrier, being more comfortable for the carrier.
His natural leg opening is not forced respecting his natural physiological frog posture: knees bent higher than ass forming an “M” and curved back in the shape of “C”
Respect the natural curvature of your back in a “C” shape and your hip is tilted forward.
The pressure exerted by the fabric envelops the baby providing contact and movement and feeling protected and safe (as well as carrying him in his arms)
It is the most suitable to be skin with skin with premature babies.
And because it is a unique and incomparable feeling with newborn babies and a few months.
It is important, as with any other type of baby carrier, to learn to knot it and place the baby well. You can learn by watching videos, attending a portering workshop or with a friend who knows and teaches us how to knot it well.
best baby carrier
1. Elastic scarf
In the case of the elastic scarf, it is easier because we pre-tie the weave first and then introduce or remove the baby without having to undo the knot. It is also the most economical (from € 39.95).
They are usually cotton with more or less elastane (Boba 5%, Liliputi 3%) or bamboo like the Smallvips.

2. Knitted Scarf
With the woven scarf we will have to knot it with one hand while holding the other with our baby. There are knots simpler than others and with the rigid fabric a better fit is achieved, especially when the babies weigh more than 6-7kgs and the elastic fabric yields.
3. Messenger bag
The bandolier requires a little practice with newborns to perform the point-by-point adjustment in an upright position. It is a good carrier for long periods with small babies and for short times with babies over 6-7kgs (up to 20, if desired) or who start walking and up and down the arms.
4. Evolutionary backpacks (adjustable panel)
baali-grisThe Emeibaby backpack can be used since the birth of the baby thanks to its adjustable scarf fabric panel that fits the size of the baby and grows with it from 3.5kgs to 15kgs or 3 years.
Ideal for dads who do not want to learn scarves and look for something quicker to place and for the whole stage of portering (0-3 years)
The Buzzidil backpack is in three sizes, and the smallest Babysize allows you to adjust your scarf fabric panel to use it from birth (56cms height) to 18 months. The maximum width of this size is a little larger than the backpacks type Boba, Manduca … about 40cms. The standard size is for babies 2-36 months and XL 8-48 months.
The Fidella Babysize backpack is suitable for babies from 56cm in height to approximately 2 years. There is also the Fusion size from 4 to 36 months.
5. Evolutionary goals
As with the evolutionary backpacks, they are the same with the adjustable and adaptable panel for babies that do not stay seated. Of this type are the Hop-Tye Classic and Hop-Tye Conversion
As an advantage over the scarf and shoulder strap is that it is easier to place, but also requires knowing how the baby should be placed and how to adjust it well.
6. Backpacks with seat reducer
Non-evolving backpacks (with a fixed non-adjustable panel) that include a newborn reducer, such as Boba 4G, Liliputi backpack or Tula Baby, I recommend them for babies who hold their back well and feel alone (from 6 months), not for newborn babies.
With the reducer it is difficult to check if the baby is in the right position but this option will always be much better than using a non-ergonomic backpack.
Start using a scarf or bandolier from the beginning to the end of the portage. When you stay seated (6 months) you can combine it with the use of backpack, mei tai, lightweight baby carrier.
Elastic scarf until 7-9kgs that the fabric yields with the weight and then move to mei tai, backpack, lightweight baby carrier …
Evolutionary backpack that will last you almost for the entire stage of portering (0-3 years) although high is short the comfort is that the fabric will come from knee to knee to the baby.
Start with evolutionary mei tai and use it until the end (3-4 years or 20kgs)
-> And remember that …
It is very important when choosing a baby carrier to take into account the use we will give according to our needs and above all to inform us of its use and the correct posture of the baby.
After the baby sits alone (6 months approx) you can use all types of baby carriers.
